TVCC's Early Childhood Development Department offers five levels of education for students seeking to enter the field of Early Childhood Education:
Early Childhood Development AAS
Early Childhood Development Certificate
Early Childhood Administrator Certificate
Behavioral Science Delivery Certificate
Behavioral Science Delivery OSA
Early Childhood Development AAS (60 SCHs)
Child development teachers provide valuable experiences that enhance the lives of the most important people in the world, our children. The early childhood worker provides care for children such as feeding, diapering, and comforting, as well as programs to stimulate children's social and intellectual development.
Early Childhood Development Certificate (39 SCHs)
Childcare workers provide care for children when parents and other family members are unavailable. They attend to children's basic needs, such as bathing and feeding. In addition, some help children prepare for kindergarten. This credential also provides a foundation for completion of the Early Childhood Education AAS degree.
Early Childhood Administrator Certificate (36 SCHs)
Childcare administrative workers provide oversight for the care of children. In addition to attending to children's basic needs, such as bathing and feeding, they assist in overseeing the programs that enrich children's time spent in a childcare setting. This credential also provides a foundation for completion of the Early Childhood Education AAS degree.
Behavioral Science Delivery Certificate (25 SCHs)
Behavior Science Delivery is a specialized training program designed to prepare students for certification as Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT), a vital role in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). This program equips students with the practical skills and theoretical knowledge necessary to support behavior analysts in implementing behavior intervention plans. The curriculum is aligned with Behavior Analyst Certification Board standards, ensuring that graduates meet the competencies required for the RBT certification exam.
Behavioral Science Delivery OSA (12 SCHs)
The Occupational Skills Award (OSA) in Behavior Science Delivery is a specialized training program designed to help students understand the core principles and concepts of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and the role of a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) in supporting clients, their families, and other stakeholders. This program includes information on neurotypical and neurodiverse growth and development. This award also provides a foundation for completion of the Behavioral Science Certificate.
This program builds a foundation for the Early Childhood Education AAS degree.
CDEC courses DO NOT transfer to a University. Students are encouraged to contact the intended transferring university for specific degree requirements.
Note: Criminal history may disqualify individuals from having access to children in licensed or certified childcare operations. Additionally, a criminal history may disqualify individuals from obtaining or maintaining any certifications required in childcare settings.
The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) permits and monitors all child-care operations and child-placing agencies for compliance with state licensing standards, rules, and laws.
For details about specific offenses and their impact on different types of child care settings, refer to https://www.dfps.state.tx.us/Child_Care/documents/Standards_and_Regulations/LCCO_Chart.pdf.
Note that even though the chart outlines offenses in which persons may be present at a child-care operation, DFPS may place conditions or restrictions on a person’s duties in order for the person to be present at the operation.
